The Carlyon Bay Celebrates 100 Years in Style with Glittering Centenary Weekend
18 November
The Carlyon Bay in Cornwall has marked its 100th anniversary with a sold-out celebratory weekend, treating guests to an elegant 1920s Art Deco experience in honour of the hotel’s rich heritage.
Guests and team members came together to celebrate the landmark occasion, enjoying a themed weekend of fine dining, live swing music, and a spectacular firework display over the bay. Displays throughout the hotel showcased its fascinating history, while a champagne reception and striking Art Deco-inspired celebration cake provided a fitting centrepiece to the festivities.
The Carlyon Bay Hotel was purchased by the Brend family in 1982, ushering in a new era of investment and transformation. Since then, it has welcomed stars of the sports world, stage and screen and worldwide politicians, as well as several members of the Royal Family. Under Brend ownership, the resort became Cornwall’s first four-star hotel and has earned numerous national and regional awards for its outstanding hospitality, fine dining, and leisure facilities. Most recently, the Brend Collection was named AA Small Hotel Group of the Year, recognising its continued commitment to excellence across a portfolio of luxury hotels, restaurants and spas throughout the South West.
Matthew Brend, Director of Brend Collection, said:
“It’s amazing to think that The Carlyon Bay has been welcoming guests for 100 years - a century of stories, memories, and dedication from everyone who’s been part of its journey. Seeing so many of our regular guests and long-serving team members come together for such a joyful weekend was really special, and a wonderful reminder that Carlyon Bay is so much more than just a hotel. On a personal level, I’m proud of its rich history and incredibly excited to shape the next chapter in its story.”
Looking ahead, the Brend Group is continuing to invest in the property, with significant refurbishment plans for public areas and bedrooms this winter, and ambitious expansion plans in the works to further enhance Carlyon Bay’s reputation as one of the UK’s premier coastal destinations. The resort offers a wealth of facilities, including an award-winning spa, championship golf course, a wide range of dining options and much more, as well as being one of Cornwall’s most sought-after wedding venues, with panoramic views over St Austell Bay providing an unforgettable backdrop for celebrations.
