Journey Back in Time…on ferry & foot

Take an exciting ferry trip and walk into the past and discover the Fal Estuary’s fascinating history with local archaeologist, Jeanette Ratcliffe.

People have been living around the shores of the Fal Estuary and sailing on its waters since prehistoric times, and from the Medieval period the estuary was a major focus of maritime trade and industry. From the 16th century, its strategic location at the gateway to the English Channel made it important in the defence of the realm and the estuary mouth was successively fortified over 400 years.

This long and rich history is reflected in the abundance of archaeological sites and historic structures – from Iron Age cliff castles and Medieval creekside churches to Post-Medieval forts, ports, quays and slipways, mines and stately homes.

As part of its range of authentic, high-quality, guided tours, on foot and by boat, Heritage Adventures has partnered up with Fal River Cornwall to offer a limited number of special Estuary Cruises on board the classic wooden ferry, Moyana.

You can also join us for one of our ‘Ferry & Foot’ adventures - small-group, guided tours combining a return ferry trip with a shoreline walk.

With Heritage Adventures you can view from the water and discover on foot the estuary’s fascinating past, in the company of a knowledgeable local guide. Come join us!
