Tregony Contemporary is delighted to present Ground & Sky, a major new curated exhibition centred on the remarkable paintings of Richard Cook.
Widely respected for his deeply considered paintings of place, Richard Cook has quietly developed an exceptional body of work over many decades. His paintings, rooted in direct observation yet transformed through memory, light and atmosphere, form the starting point for an exhibition that brings together a carefully selected group of contemporary artists whose work shares similar concerns.
Rather than a traditional mixed summer exhibition, Ground & Sky explores the relationship between place, memory and experience. Through painting and sculpture, the exhibition considers not simply what we see, but how landscape and environmentare remembered, felt and carried with us over time.
Alongside Richard Cook, the exhibition features work by Victoria Atkinson MRSS, James Bland NEAC, Virginia Bounds, Mark Dunford LG, Emily Faludy, Judi Green, Claire Ireland, Matt Midwood, Ian Norris MAFA, Daniel Preece LG, Linda Schwab, Sarah Spackman ROIRBA, Mark Surridge, Kay Vinson and Grant Watson NEAC.
Although each artist has a distinct visual language, they share a deep engagement with observation and the enduring qualities of light, weather and atmosphere. Together, their work invites us to slow down, look carefully and reconnect with the experience of place. Ground & Sky also marks a new direction for Tregony Contemporary. Moving beyond the traditional seasonal mixed exhibition, it reflects an increasingly focused curatorial programme, bringing together artists through shared ideas and meaningful conversations rather than simply exhibiting work side by side.
The exhibition opens on Saturday, 1 August and runs until Saturday 29 August 2026. More information here
