Guest Blog: Activities for your Autumn Holiday

15 October 2020

Take a look at our latest guest blog from Nanny Pat at Bosinver Farm and her suggestions for great activities to enjoy during your autumn holiday even with the Covid-19 restrictions!

After the strangeness of being at Bosinver on our own from March with an eerie silence permeating the place, we were thrilled to bits to welcome guests back on the 4th July.  It has been a challenging time for everyone to adapt to the new rules and for us to offer most of the Bosinver experiences in a safe way involved considerable brain strain!

We are extremely fortunate though that our little farm has 30 acres and detached cottages which has allowed our guests to have space around you and make social distancing easy. We have managed to implement strict cleaning regimes and organise pony rides, swimming and animal feeding so guests can enjoy them in a safe way.  Our gym, therapy room, games room and tennis courts are all open and we have several outdoor trails with prizes to be won to challenge and keep little ones occupied on site.

Many local businesses are open too – all with safety measures and restricted numbers in place so it is essential that you book beforehand to reserve a table at restaurants or a ticket for your chosen attraction. Our local pub, the Polgooth Inn has even added glass screens between the tables for your protection.

If you do not wish to venture out you can still preorder frozen meals from ‘Angels in the Kitchen’ to be delivered to your cottage and food deliveries from Cornish Food Box, People and Gardens Veg bags or groceries from our local Polgooth village shop or local supermarkets.

For those of you who wish to venture further why not wrap up warm and head off to some local beaches for a spot of wave watching or rock pooling at nearby Porthpean, Porthluney or Pendower beaches (Pendower pictured above).

You might like to head off for a walk along the cliffs to admire the spectacular views – our blog posts on walks with toddlers will give you some top tips for walks with small children in tow.

Nearby we have two off road cycle trails for you to explore in the fresh air – the Pentewan Trail and the Camel Trail. Lanhydrock National Trust also has a cycle hub with trails for all abilities, including some challenging mountain bike routes, as does Cardinham Woods near Bodmin.

There are many funky little beach cafes where you can grab a hot chocolate or a steaming bowl of homemade soup such as Sams at Polkerris, The Hidden Hut at Porthcurnick, Caerhays beach café, Gylly Beach Café at Falmouth, the Blue Bar at Porthtowan, The Watering Hole at Perranporth to name but a few. It is worth checking beforehand for opening times as they may vary due to the day of the week of your visit.

All of the National Trust gardens are open which include Lanyhydrock , Cotehele, Trelissick, Glendurgan and Trerice and of course we are so lucky to have both the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project on our doorstep. It is worth checking out the CATA website for opening times for attractions and Cornwall 365  for events taking place in Cornwall.

Over the years I have visited most of the attractions in Cornwall and written my Nanny Pat blog posts about these adventures with my grandchildren – if you are in need of inspiration check out these and our other blog posts for a wealth of ideas of what you can pack into your holiday.

We are sure you will be glad to get away for a much needed break and hope that these suggestions will help you to plan and make the most of your stay.
