Oktoberfest with Harbour House - 1st -15th October

Prost! Harbour House is finally bringing Oktoberfest to the Fal, and it's been two years in the making. Expect two weeks of Bavarian brilliance, featuring traditional dishes such as weisswurst, grilled chicken, sauerkraut, schnitzel, salty pretzels, and apple strudel, all accompanied by plenty of German beer. Folk tunes will fill the air, and the main celebration kicks off on Friday, 3rd October, Lederhosen encouraged, of course.

Truro High Tide Cruise - 8th & 21st October

All aboard for a scenic journey up the Carrick Roads to the city of Truro. Enterprise Boats' high tide cruise departs from Falmouth's Prince of Wales Pier, winding its way along the river to arrive in Truro before cruising back down as evening settles over the water. It's the perfect way to see the Fal from a different perspective and enjoy the beauty of the estuary at its finest.

Seafood Lunch at Hotel Tresanton - 9th October

In celebration of oyster season's arrival, Hotel Tresanton's Head Chef Paul Wadham has created a special seafood lunch that showcases the very best of Cornish coastal flavours. The menu features native oysters with shallot vinegar, a sumptuous lobster soup with scallop, prawn, John Dory and saffron aioli, brill with rosti potato and girolles, and apple tatin to finish. It's a refined celebration of fresh, local seafood in one of St Mawes' most elegant settings. £40 for three courses.

Grape v Grain at Indidog - 9th October

This is no ordinary tasting menu. Indidog is hosting an unmissable evening where Cornwall's top chefs, an artisan baker and expert sommeliers come together for a playful culinary showdown. Each of the six courses will be paired twice – once with fine wine from the Moët Hennessy portfolio and once with a craft beer from Sharps Brewery – and you'll decide which pairing wins. With five chefs, one beer sommelier, one baker, and twelve drinks over the course of the evening, it's an interactive celebration of flavour, laughter and friendly competition. Even better, a portion from every ticket supports the Fisherman's Mission.

Falmouth Oyster Festival - 9th -12th October

The jewel in October's crown returns to Falmouth's Events Square and the Princess Pavilion. This four-day festival is a proper celebration of the mighty mollusc and the start of the oyster dredging season, championing traditional harvesting methods using only sail and oar. Expect cookery demonstrations from Cornwall's top chefs, live music ranging from folk to shanties, food and drink stalls, a working boat race, oyster shucking competitions, and of course, plenty of opportunities to sample those famous Fal oysters. Keith Wallis, host of The Piskie Trap podcast, invites you to delve into the murkier side of Cornwall's past over a two-course lunch at Trelissick. Expect tales of secret tunnels, rumours of murder and revenge, haunted pubs, and daring beach battles – all the shadowy stories that make Cornish smuggling history so captivating. The Flamingo Club Murder Mystery Evening at The Alverton - 24th October

Step into the opulent 1920s at The Alverton's Great Hall for an evening of intrigue and suspense. Arrive in your finest flapper attire for a welcome tipple before the famous Murder by Appointment company presents The Flamingo Club mystery. Set in uptown Chicago, the story centres on nightclub owner Tony Lupino, whose financial troubles and mob pressure create a powder keg of drama. When a body is found, you'll need all your detective skills to work out whodunnit. Your ticket includes an arrival drink, a three-course dinner, and immersive entertainment.

For an intimate evening in a beautiful setting, head to Renwick's Cafe at St Just Church and Gardens on the Roseland. These candlelit suppers offer two courses in the cafe's charming surroundings, and you're welcome to bring your own bottle to pair with your meal. While not strictly foodie, this exhibition pairs beautifully with an October day out. Tregony Contemporary presents SHIFT, featuring American painters Joe Morzuch and Edmond Praybe. Both artists engage deeply with the observed world, exploring everyday objects, domestic interiors and spatial relationships through painting. Morzuch's still life works draw you into carefully calibrated arrangements, while Praybe's paintings embrace ambiguity and abstraction. Together they offer a compelling dialogue on seeing and making.

This is the one-night-only collaboration everyone will be talking about. MasterChef: The Professionals 2024 winner Dan Merriman joins forces with The Idle Rocks' Head Chef Carla Jones to create an eight-course fish and seafood tasting menu showcasing the very best of Cornish day boat catches. The evening begins with welcome drinks and canapés before guests take their seats at the banquet table for dishes that blend classical technique with modern creativity. You'll also have the rare opportunity to meet Dan, hear about his journey since lifting the trophy, and learn about the inspiration behind each extraordinary course.
