9 February - 4 March 2023

Cornish Craft Beer Event Fundraising for Children’s Hospice South West, generously supported by The Alverton Hotel, Truro.

A couple who lost their baby daughter in 2018 to Mitochondrial Disease are organising their second Charity Cornish Craft Beer Tasting Evening to raise vital funds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) on Saturday 4th March at The Alverton Hotel in Truro.

Tickets are just £20 and include a welcome pint, followed by glasses of five beers from different Cornish breweries, snacks and a pasty supper. From pale ales through to dark beers, expect small batch, limited run brews you may not have tried before. The evening will also see an exclusive beer launch from one of Cornwall's finest breweries showcasing their first new bottled beer in over five years. The evening will finish with piping hot pasties, a beer-themed raffle and a chance to purchase more charity drinks.

Ben Keverne and Hannah Chapman lost their baby, Maisie, just before her six-month birthday to Mitochondrial Disease. Ever since they’ve been raising money for the charities that have supported their family in the hope of making some sense of their loss. They have raised almost £30,000 with the support from family and friends, and they don’t plan to stop now.

Maisie’s Dad, Ben, will be running his third London Marathon in honour of his daughter this year for CHSW - with the 2023 marathon actually taking place on his 40th birthday.

Ben says: “Maisie has made me appreciate life, and 40 is a big milestone for anyone. Running the marathon on my birthday will give me the opportunity to spend a bit of time with Maisie in my thoughts.”

CHSW have been an incredible support to the couple since the death of Maisie - with memory days, providing sibling support for their eldest son, and parent support groups too. “I really don’t know what we would have done without Little Harbour”, says Hannah. “It is so nice to have the chance to give something back to them”.

This will be the couple’s second Charity Craft Beer Tasting Evening - with the first taking place in 2020 - and the family hope to make it an annual fundraising event.

Hannah, Maisie’s mum, said: “The first Craft Beer Tasting Event in 2020 was such a fun evening - it was a great way to get people together to celebrate some amazing Cornish breweries, whilst catching up with friends. Throughout her life, and after it, Maisie found ways to bring people together and made us do things we wouldn’t normally do. She taught us to make the most of the lives we’re very lucky to have. That’s why we nicknamed her: Amazing Maisie.”

Ben says: “I’m sure it will be a fun night for all, providing something to look forward to near the start of the year. It’s a great opportunity to find your new favourite tipple!” The family have been blown away by the generosity of Cornish breweries who have donated beer for the tastings and prizes for the raffles including not only beer, but experiences and vouchers.
