St Mawes Castle

St Mawes Castle

Overlooking the mouth of the Fal River, this castle has some of the best views in all of Cornwall.

This picturesquely located castle is among the best-preserved of Henry VIII's coastal artillery fortresses, and the most elaborately decorated of them all.

One of the chain of forts built between 1539 and 1545 it guarded the important anchorage of the Carrick Roads, sharing the task with Pendennis Castle on the other side of the Fal estuary.

Bring the castle to life with a free audio tour and explore the grounds which stretch down to the waters of the Fal Estuary and enjoy the stunning views across to Pendennis Castle and out to sea.

One of the best ways to approach the castle is by sea. Enjoy a lovely ferry ride on the foot ferry from Falmouth town or by car on the King Harry Ferry from Feock.
